What to Look for when Selecting a Child Care Provider

By: Eddie Hudd

Once you have found a day care center for your child, you will want to know some details about your child care provider that will help you to feel more comfortable leaving your child in a new environment. Here are some of the personality traits that you should keep in mind once you have made the decision to educate your child outside of the home.

Certification

Just as colleges and universities have to be accredited, the child care provider that you choose should be certified to teach all of the age groups of children that attend the facility. Childcare is more than just feeding kids and putting them down for a nap, so you will need to make sure that the childcare provider you have selected has instructors that are certified to teach kids the fundamentals of education depending on their age group. This way, you can be sure that your child is developing intellectually as well as being on the same track as other children in their age group. Of course, you will have to work with your children on learning their colors, numbers and shapes at home as well, but sending your children to a certified school will definitely help.

Safety

Not only should you make sure that their are no hazardous items within the reach of your little ones, but the professional in the child care provider center should be able to provide CPR to your kids should anything happen. There should also be a first aid kit on the premises so that the day care professionals can fix up any cuts and scrapes your children may get while playing. There are often pools and playgrounds at some day care centers, and you need to make sure that you can leave your children in a place where they will be taken care of, no matter what.

Healthy Social Environment

Ask your childcare provider if you can spend a day observing the different classes and activities that may be provided for your youngster. Make sure that you are in a place where your child cannot see you, and talk with the director about observing your childs teacher so that you can see how they react with other children. Additionally, you will be able to see how well your little one is learning different concepts that are instrumental to their education. You will also be able to see how well your child is making friends, or whether or not your toddler is comfortable at certain parts of the day when different educational concepts are being explored.

When it comes to the care of children, childcare providers must be aware of the key elements parents consider when selecting a day care in their community. It is both parties responsibility to ensure that the children receive the best care possible. The parents job is to know who is caring for their children and always remain diligent about knowing what is going on at the center they choose.
